The Organization for Autism Research (OAR) was created in December 2001 – the product of the shared vision and unique life experience of OAR’s seven founders. Led by these parents and grandparents of children and adults on the autism spectrum. OAR set out to use applied science to answer questions that parents, families, individuals with autism, teachers and caregivers confront daily.

The mission of the LuMind Research Down Syndrome Foundation is to stimulate biomedical research that will accelerate the development of treatments to significantly improve cognition, including memory, learning and speech, for individuals with Down Syndrome.

Loudoun County Special Olympics is a nonprofit organization that provides training and competition in various Olympic-style sports for individuals with intellectual disabilities. Training for athletes is paid for through fundraising efforts such as these. Loudoun County Special Olympics offers year round training in a variety of sports. Athletes have the opportunity to travel throughout each season to compete with athletes across Virginia.

Loudoun County Special Olympics is also the primary volunteer provider for the Virginia Wine Country Half Marathon. Please visit the Get Involved page if you are interested in volunteering on behalf of Special Olympics.

Girls on the Run of Northern Virginia is a non-profit, after school program for girls in 3rd – 8th grade that has a mission to inspire girls to be joyful, healthy, and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running. The goal of the program is to unleash confidence through accomplishment while establishing a lifetime appreciation of health and fitness. In the past 13 years, thousands of volunteers have helped to empower nearly 44,000 young girls with the confidence and character they need to become healthy, strong women. Today, GOTR NOVA serves almost 6,000 girls annually at more than 175 sites throughout Northern Virginia.

Loudoun Road Runners is a non-profit affiliate of the Road Runners Club of America. The goals of the club are to provide motivation, training, and safety to our members along with a friendly, social atmosphere. Our members enjoy weekly club runs in different locations throughout western Loudoun County. We also support running in the community by organizing the annual Loudoun 10K Trail Run, cleaning up the W&OD trail, providing volunteers for local races, and raising money for organizations including Boulder Crest Retreat for Wounded Warriors, Girls on the Run and Special Olympics.
